When to use jwt decoder
- Inspect development tokens.
- Read claim names while debugging an integration.
How it works
Split the compact token at periods, Base64URL-decode the first two segments as UTF-8, then parse each as a JSON object. No verification key is requested.
Supported inputs and limits
Decoding does not verify a signature, expiration, issuer or audience. Never use this output to grant access. Five-segment encrypted JWE tokens are not supported. Avoid sharing real credentials with anyone.
Common questions
Does a readable payload mean the token is valid?
No. Anyone can construct readable header and payload segments. A trusted verifier must check the signature and required claims.
Is the token sent to a server?
The decoder processes it locally. No token content is included in analytics.
