HTML Entity Encode / Decode
Choose encode or decode and paste text. Encoding escapes the five HTML-significant characters so text displays literally inside HTML; “encode all” also converts non-ASCII characters to numeric entities. Decoding understands numeric (é é) and common named entities.
This tool runs in an isolated frame on tools.freetoolspro.com. Your files and inputs stay on your device, and advertising on this page cannot read them.
When to use it
Escaping is for showing code or user text inside HTML. It is not a complete defence against cross-site scripting in every context (attributes, URLs, scripts need context-specific encoding).
Privacy
Your text is processed by a Web Worker inside the isolated tools.freetoolspro.com frame. It is not uploaded, logged or shown to advertising scripts on this page, and it is gone when you close the tab.
Common questions
Which named entities are decoded?
The common ones (amp, lt, gt, quot, apos, nbsp, copy, reg, trade, hellip, dashes, currency, guillemets) plus all numeric entities.
